Every university has an Examination Appeals Board where students can lodge appeals on the grounds of article 7.61 of the Higher Education and Research Act (WHW). This Board is an independent board of appeal, established under the terms of the WHW.

Within Leiden University, all those involved in academic teaching and research are personally responsible for meeting generally accepted standards of academic practice when carrying out this research or teaching. The general principles of professional academic practice must be observed at all times. The present Regulation enables to investigate possible infringements of academic integrity.
These regulations convey the constitution and competence of the committee as well as provisions on the procedure.
All students of Leiden University have the right to request the ombudsperson in writing to instigate an investigation into the way in which an adminstrative unit or employee of the university has acted in a particular instance towards them.
